A lottery with a difference has lanched today, which supports good causes throughout Richmond with a £25,000 jackpot.

Charities, sports projects and community groups requiring much-needed funds to recover after the pandemic can get a boost by entering Get Lucky Local.

A jackpot prize of £25,000 is available with smaller prizes of £2000, £250, £25, as well as free tickets and non-cash prizes.

Participants in the online game choose the local organisations which will benefit from the cash prizes, costing £1 a ticket.

Out of the £1 ticket cost 50p will go to the player’s nominated organisation with another 10p going into a central fund to benefit local causes which may also require support.

Get Lucky Local formally launched this Thursday (Sept 10) at The Exchange in Twickenham.

At the event were representatives of groups which hope to raise money for their good causes, as well as local councillors from the Richmond Borough and the lottery operators.

Twickenham MP, Munira Wilson, gave her support to the Lottery, saying:

“We are blessed with hundreds of community groups and sports clubs right across the borough which contribute so much to the quality of life in Richmond.

“Many struggle to get by and the coronavirus crisis has made their need even more acute. That’s why I’m delighted to support Get Lucky Local which will enable people to support these good causes and have some fun at the same time."

Marc Leckie, CEO of the Harlequins Foundation, the charitable arm of the locally-based Harlequins Rugby Club, also welcomed the launch of the lottery. He said:

“Our local community needs more support than ever because of the impact of the pandemic and the lottery is a very imaginative way to provide that vital help especially as players can choose the actual causes they want their money to benefit.”

Any organisation or club in the borough can apply to be a 'Good Cause' with its own page on the Get Lucky Local website.

Get Lucky Local is being run by specialist Lottery operator Gatherwell which runs 70 similar lotteries across the UK, providing significant financial support to local community projects.

Tickets will go on sale for the first time on October 6th with the first draw on November 14th.
