Brentford centre-back Ethan Pinnock had given the Bees a first-half lead, which was the first competitive goal at the club’s brand-new stadium.

Speaking after the loss to Brentford, Ainsworth said: “What (the Brentford management) have done is nothing short of outstanding because you talk about underdogs, Brentford have really turned the tables upside down and what a fantastic season they had last year.

“They have got a fantastic structure in place here and they have got a humble manager who gave me some very nice comments at the end of the game.”

“It was a real privilege to come here and we will go to many more [stadiums] like this, this season.

“And we’ll walk in with our heads held high as we give everything at every ground and I’m looking forward to taking the boys to some of these fantastic places.

“There were some really good performances and bright sparks for what we’re going to go into, which is going to be a tough club.”

Thomas Frank has been Brentford’s manager since October 2018, and he was won 40 of his 90 games in charge of the Bees.
