Flash flooding struck Colliers Wood after the Met Office warned parts of the UK would experience heavy rainfall on August 24.

Videos sent to Wimbledon Times showed heavy rains on Monday evening washing over parts of Colliers Wood.

The rapid change in weather saw drivers caught in flooding along Merantun Way by Wickes.

Flooding was also captured in Wandle Park as ducks were spotted enjoying the heavy rainfall which saw the River Wandle overflow.

The flooding arrived as the Met Office issued nationwide warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Francis today.

Emmie Rose spoke to Wimbledon Times after being caught in Wandle Park.

She said: "I went to walk to the shop with my boyfriend and dog, but our usual route turned into a lake in just a few hours.

"It was normal when I was there at 4.30 pm.

"But when I returned at 7.00 pm it had been completely submerged as the River Wandle overflowed."

Zora-Hannah Bansah was driving on Merantun Way .

She said: "It started raining but the longer we stayed in traffic, the heavier the rain.

"The roads started building up with water that I could barely move my car through."

A Met Office spokesperson warned the UK about the weather conditions yesterday afternoon:

"A deep area of low pressure will bring heavy rain and the risk of severe gales in places during Tuesday and Wednesday."

Today, the Met Office warned people to stay "weather aware" in a statement online.
