When Gina had her mobility scooter taken away from her back in March by the Department for Work & Pensions, she became almost housebound.
Gina, who has a chronic lung condition and Spina bifida, is only 3 feet 5 inches tall and her left leg is 6 inches shorter than her right.
She suffers constant pain in her back, and her arms and shoulders suffer due to the strain of getting around on crutches.
Gina was given little instruction on how to get back her scooter, only advice about how to appeal, which could take up to 6 months.
However, Gina found a helping hand in Meredydd Carney, who works in Tesco, in Teddington. Meredydd got to know Gina throughout the pandemic, as she would see her struggling on crutches.
When Meredydd heard about the DWP decision two weeks ago she used her IT skills to raise funds to buy Gina a new scooter.
Within two weeks she has raised over £4,000 - enough to buy Gina not only a shiny new scooter, but a new sofa and chair.
Gina has her new scooter and together she and Meredydd went on a maiden voyage to Tesco, where she was greeted as an old friend.
Gina has named her new scooter Meredydd, in honour of her young friend who came to her need.
