It’s a feline frenzy this week as we celebrate International Cat Day and World Lion Day.

On Saturday, new arrival Scooter was introduced to visitors in his enclosure, making himself at home – at first a little nervous as he took in his new surroundings, Scooter quickly claimed a cool, sheltered, vantage point from under one of the trees in his enclosure to keep an eye on people popping past, letting out the occasional grumble to remind everyone of his presence!

Jaguar Remi who lives in the opposite enclosure was totally unphased by the new appearance and was found chilling on his rock, not a care in the world.

Scooter has settled really well and is getting on with Chevelle when they are separated in their indoor pens so we hope to very soon let them become acquainted in the great outdoors!

Elsewhere, it’s all eyes on Treacle and Cinnamon as their outdoor enclosure got some finishing touches.

Visitors will notice that the enclosure has a mixture of different substrates – fine sand, small stone and bark but no grass, which might seem a bit odd.

The harder surface helps keep their hooves nice and filed (like a daily pedicure) but also, Reindeer do sometimes struggle to digest grass in large quantities yet they would happily munch on it all day, so, you will see plenty of feeders within the enclosure offering a never ending supply of hay and branches (Currently willow).

Whilst a Reindeer is for life, the Tale of Treacle and Cinnamon’s adventures leads us nicely into thoughts of the dreaded C world – Christmas!

I can hear you all screaming “it’s only August” but please stay with me.

Under current guidelines, a traditional Santa meet and greet - which our repeat visitors know and love - will prove difficult so we are currently on with planning some pawesome festive activities which will maintain the magic from a safe distance.

Keep an eye on our social media because as soon as plans start to develop, you will be the first to know.
