A SUSPECT allegedly choked a woman and hit her using his T-shirt in the city.
Police are probing an fight between the two in Regency Road, Brighton, at 1.30pm on Friday.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, was protected by officers.
Investigating officer Nicola Jones praised the member of the public who rang in for witnessing the assault.
She said she believed a group of three men may have witnessed the assault, and made appeals for any witnesses to come forward.
A 31-year-old man from St Albans was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm. He has been released on police bail until 6 September while enquiries are ongoing. Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 and quote reference 778 of 07/08.
