MULTI-MILLION-POUND improvements to the West Coast Man Line in Cumbria and Lancashire are under way to improve the reliability of passenger and freight journeys.
The £3.4m works to overhead line equipment between Preston and Carlisle, being delivered between now and March next year, are designed to make it more resilient.
Phil James, Network Rail's North West route director, said the 'important upgrade' would 'improve reliability' for passengers and train operators along the West Coast Main Line.
"Putting passengers first, we’ve brought in a specialist team that will work in the early hours of Sunday morning to get our overhead line equipment back into shape," said Mr James.
“This work as part of the Great North Rail Project will improve the reliability of the West Coast Main Line to encourage tourists, holiday-makers, commuters and business people back on to the railway.”
