A hospice based in North Cheam will host a summer-themed virtual quiz on Tuesday (21 July), to fundraise for vital income lost during the pandemic.

The event, hosted by St Raphael’s Hospice in partnership with The Pub Quiz Company, will kick-off at 8pm tomorrow over Zoom.

Participants are asked to switch their holiday mode on, grabbing sun hats, sarongs and Hawaiian shirts, for the “Ultimate Summer Quiz”.

Prizes for the best team name and best fancy dressed team will be up for grabs.

St Raphael’s Hospice has been a pillar in Merton and Sutton for the last 30 years, providing end of life care to residents.

The hospice provides home-based and in-patient care, wellbeing services and bereavement support to patients and their loved ones.

However, like many charities recently, it has fallen on hard times.

Due to pandemic, 10 of their charity shops have been forced to close, and all major events cancelled.

St Raphael’s has predicted this will cost them £1.5million this year alone.

Head of Donor Development, Emily Kaniecki, says this is a massive loss.

“This is a huge portion of our yearly income as it costs £6million every year to run our specialist palliative care services for Merton and Sutton.”

“We are proud to be at the heart of our community and we need them now more than ever to ensure our expert care can continue into the future. By taking part in this quiz you will be supporting your local hospice whilst having lots of fun with family and friends too!”

Celebrity guests have also got behind the cause, and will be appearing tomorrow night to ask the audience bonus questions.

It has already been revealed that Dani Harmer, best known for her role as Tracy Beaker in the CBBC hit series, and for competing on Strictly Come Dancing, will make a cameo.

Tickets are £2.50 per person, or you can buy five and get one extra free. You can find out more information about the event and register here.
