Two men have been arrested after a Mercedes failed to stop for police in Gravesend, and was later found completely ablaze and facing the wrong way on a slip road.

Kent Police say they found the vehicle alight on Whitehill Road in Gravesend around 6:45pm on Sunday, July 12.

The car, billowing flames and smoke, was dumped on the London-bound slip road off the A2 to Henhurst Road.

The two men was located shortly after in Jeskins Road, and police said they were arrested in connection with criminal damage.

One of the men, a 19-year-old from Gravesend, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, not having insurance, driving without a license and criminal damage.

He has been bailed to a police station.

The second man, a 28-year-old also from Gravesend, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

He has been released under investigation.

The investigation continues.
