GYMS, swimming pools and leisure centres can reopen for the first time since lockdown began on Saturday July 25.

Reduced class sizes, spaced-out equipment and more regular cleaning are among the safety measures that will be put in place to keep visitors safe and reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.

Culture secretary Oliver Dowden made the announcement at the latest government press conference.

Mr Dowden revealed that as of this weekend, outdoor music, theatre, opera, and dance performances can go ahead. Recreational sports teams can resume play from this weekend after their organisations publish approved guidance. Tattoo parlours and nail bars will be able to reopen from Monday.

Mr Dowden said: "This is an important milestone for our performing artists... and it's good news for the nation's fitness. Make the most of this summer safely. Eat out to help out, enjoy the arts to help out, and work out to help out."
