A MAN grabbed a woman's neck as she boarded a bus in the city centre. 

Sussex Police are investigating the assault in Western Road, Brighton, on Monday, and are trying to trace the attacker. 

The man, who is white and aged in his 40s, is reported to have grabbed the women's neck and arm before hurling abuse at others who stepped in to intervene. 

A spokeswoman for the force said: "We are investigating after a woman reported being assaulted by a man as she was trying board a bus at 6.08pm.

"The man grabbed the victim's neck and arm and shouted abuse and other members of the public intervened to stop him. She was not injured.
"The suspect is white, aged in his 40s, with short, light brown hair, 6ft 1in, of slim build and was wearing a green woolly jumper, blue jeans and black and white Adidas shoes."
People are asked to report online or ring 101 quoting serial 1204 if they witnessed the assault or have any information about the incident.
