Sutton Council and Successful Sutton has announced a series of measures to ensure the safety of the community following the latest restriction ease.

Businesses over the last few weeks have been doing all they can to be ready to open their doors safely and welcome residents and visitors once more.

The Council says they have been working hard to ensure businesses are prepared for the reopening following the outbreak.

Councillor Jayne McCoy, Chair of Sutton’s Housing, Economy & Business Committee, says: "We have been keen to help our businesses resume trading while also protecting the health of their customers.

"I am very proud of how our local businesses have stepped up to make sure they are ready to reopen.

Your Local Guardian:

"As shopping locally has become more important than ever, we hope these measures will mean our residents can support our local businesses with confidence."

Here is what shoppers can expect to see:

  • Shops have been provided with posters to display, which confirm they’ve undertaken all the government-defined steps to trade safely.
  • Floor stencils will be painted on Sutton High Street and floor markings will be in place in other local high streets over the coming weeks to help you to stay safe and leave the correct space for safe social distancing.
  • As with supermarkets, pharmacies and hardware stores, the number of customers in-store at any one time will be limited. There will be waiting times before you enter, especially at peak periods. Store and town centre marshals will be on hand to direct you and help you to queue safely.
  • Trading hours may also be different than usual, so please check in advance.
  • Toilet facilities may be more limited than usual, public toilets will not be open.

Residents have been asked to; use a face covering when in enclosed spaces, to consider shopping at quieter times, to stay local where possible, to walk and cycle where possible and to carry sanitizer.
