One of the lorry drivers involved in a major crash on the A2 yesterday has died, with detectives making one arrest.

Two lorries collided around 4:20am on the coastbound carriageway of the A2, with emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushing to the scene.

Kent Police have now confirmed that the driver of a lorry towing a red trailer, a man in his 30s from Medway who reportedly worked for Royal Mail, died at the scene.

One person has also been arrested, a man in his 20s driving a Citroen C4 who allegedly crashed into a central reservation barrier moments before the lorries collided.

The crash took place about a mile before the exit for the M25, causing major delays throughout Thursday and an air ambulance landing on the London-bound carriageway.

Police described it as a "serious injury collision," and are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage.

The lorries were towing white and red trailers respectively, and detectives say the red Citroen collided with the central reservation barrier at the same time.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath and driving without insurance. He has since been released, pending further enquiries.

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact.

Officers would also like to obtain dash cam footage that captures the vehicles travelling in the moments leading up to the collision.
