Tooting & Mitcham United FC have received a whopping £8000 through their fundraising page after appealing for donations to keep the club afloat during the pandemic.

The club which has been closed since the middle of March decided to launch a fundraiser in a bid to raise funds due to the club closure.

Tooting and Mitcham United FC rely heavily on matchday revenue, the bar and hire of their facilities, which have all been put to a halt due to the pandemic.

Luckily for the club, generous supporters have come to the rescue since crowdfunding on April 27.

The club would like to highlight supporters, Ciaran Kelly and Emmeline Pinion who purchased the featured reward of becoming a friend of the club for £500.

On top of the club donation, the package includes advertisement for St Georges Hospital, which will help promote the hospital throughout the season.

The package includes advertising via the club website, social media, a pitch-side banner and in the programme.

Supporter, Ciaran Kelly said: "Since moving to the area two years ago, I have been impressed by the community spirit of Tooting, in particular, Tooting & Mitcham United FC.

"It has become a regular part of our week supporting the club home and away.

"During this difficult time, it seemed appropriate to support the club and the local hospital which Emmeline works at, in any way we could."

Tooting & Mitcham United FC and St Georges Hospital have a close relationship with their medical school and mental health team using the 3G pitches at the club for matches.

CEO of the St. George’s Hospital Charity, Amerjit Chohan, said: "When Ciaran contacted us, we were very touched that he chose to use this opportunity to support his local hospital and our local NHS heroes.

"During these unprecedented times, we are seeing so many acts of kindness in the hospital and our community and would like to thank Ciaran and Tooting and Mitcham United FC for this opportunity."

Donations reached £8238 out of the targeted £15,000 at the time of publishing.
