Armed officers from the Met Police descended on Thornton Heath High Street Sunday afternoon (May 10) and made one arrest.
Images of a number of police cars and police officers carrying guns circulated on social media Sunday afternoon, while police confirmed they had arrested a 25-year-old man in the daylight operation.
Responding to a request from the Croydon Guardian, a spokesperson for the Met said:
"Just before 13:00hrs on Sunday, 10 May armed officers stopped a car on High Street, Thornton Heath in relation to an ongoing investigation.
"Following the stop a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and motor vehicle offences.
"He is currently in custody in a south London police station."
