Lockdown has appeared challenging for some but for Merton residents it's been a 'piece of cake.'

Volunteers at Merton Mutual Aid decided to host Merton's very own bake off- which has appeared popular with residents across the borough.

The competition has seen a variety of entries so far, with entries ranging from children to adults, from Raynes Park, Morden, Colliers Wood and Merton Park.

Below are some of our favourite entries:

Jasmin Nguyen, 14, from Lower Morden

Your Local Guardian:

Jasmine says, she should win because she made the cake for her fathers birthday and it was 'very yummy.'

Suzie Kelly, 48, from Colliers Wood

Your Local Guardian:

Suzie says, she should win because she not only made the cake for her friends birthday but delivered it straight to her doorstep.

Ashleigh Hillhouse, 11, from Raynes Park

Your Local Guardian:

Ashleigh says, she should win because it was decorated beautifully, tasted delicious and a great achievement at 11-years-old.

Maggie To, from Merton Park, originally from Hong Kong

Your Local Guardian:

Maggie says, she should win because she lifted her friends spirits by doing a social distance delivery and says her tarts have given her a good feel of home.

The bake off has proven to be a hit with Merton residents and volunteers at Merton Mutual Aid.

Founder of Merton Mutual Aid, Zakaria Dada, said: "The competition started on Monday out of the blue after the idea was formed in our social media chat

"We wanted to increase community cohesiveness by uniting the people of Merton in an exciting virtual event.

"The entries so far have been amazing, with quite a lot of traffic on the post and some great looking cakes that I hope to try one day.

"Especially awesome are the entries from children with little help from their parents which we can't wait to judge.

"The judging criteria are to be determined in all honesty."

Merton Mutual Aid has asked local bakers to judge the entries on Sunday (May 10), with a cut off at 23.59 this Saturday (May 9).
