A 5-year-old has been dressing up as a different character each week in a bid to raise money for the NHS.

Dexter John Hindson, from Wallington, decided to dress up after becoming emotional during the first time he clapped for the NHS.

The sweet young boy decided he wanted to 'put smiles on people's faces' and asked his mother if he could get neighbours to put money in a bucket for the NHS.

Instead, Dexter's mother, Gina Casey, decided to set up a fundraising page on Dexter's behalf.

Speaking to Sutton Guardian, Dexter Hindson, said: "I just like to see everyone smiling and happy when they see me- It makes me feel happy.

"I feel really pleased to raise money, it makes me feel happy inside and makes me want to sing."

Dexter's mother, Gina Casey said: "I am just so proud of him, he has always had a very caring heart.

"After Dexters first time clapping, we came in and he cried his eyes out.

"He didn’t really understand what was going on but he felt the emotional atmosphere.

"The next day he said to me, Mummy, next week when we clap, I’d like to dress up in costume to make people smile and maybe I could collect money in a bucket for the doctors and nurses?.

"So instead of the bucket, I set up a fundraising page and that’s how it started.

"We have been amazed at how kind and generous people are.

"Some of the donations have been from complete strangers that just said his pictures make them smile- that’s all we wanted to do and raise some money as well.

"This virus is effecting everybody in different ways and it will be getting harder each week for those missing family and friends.

"It is important to try and share a bit of positivity and fun as we go through this."

Donations reached £1110 at the time of publishing.
