A restaurant in Colliers Wood has been fundraising to support hospital workers at St Georges Hospital with free hot meals.

The Watermill Restaurant, in Abbey Mills, hopes to raise £1000 so they can continue to deliver hot meals to the hospital.

So far, the restaurant has provided more than 400 free meals, and with the funding hope to continue to provide many more over the coming weeks.

Speaking to Wimbledon Times about their reasoning behind free meals, Charles J Caton, of The Watermill Restaurant said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made donations to the fundraiser.

“As well as the other fund-raising group we are working with, without you none of what we are achieving would have been possible.

“For many generations, my family has lived close to St George’s and would attend if they required medical treatment.

“The most recent was my dad, who unfortunately passed away in the hospital.

“Although I and my family thanked everyone who cared for him in his final days, I was unable to show how much their care and effort was truly appreciated.

“I now feel that this is the time for me to show my appreciation, by doing all I can to help them through a difficult and dangerous time.

“knowing how pleased and proud my dad would have been with the support we are giving the NHS, is one of the most satisfying and rewarding feelings one could have.”

The Watermill Restaurant is also trying to support the elderly by delivering freshly made hot meals at a discounted price of £6.95.

If fundraising costs continue, the restaurant hopes to be able to further reduce the price and eventually deliver free hot meals to those vulnerable during the outbreak.
