Kingston University has ended all face-to-face teaching due to the coronavirus outbreak, but cafes and libraries remain open.

This means students will not attend lectures or other sessions on campus, and where possible, will be taught remotely.

In a statement released yesterday (March 17), a university spokesperson said the measures were in place to protect the health and safety of staff and students.

The university will also reduce formal examinations and face-to-face assessments, and has postponed all major events until further notice.

International students and those on overseas placements will also be encouraged to follow advice available for their specific situations and make travel plans if necessary.

Staff will be asked not to travel either nationally or internationally on university business.

Currently cafes and libraries remain open, although working hours are shorter and arrangements have been put in place for extra cleaning and waste disposal.

This is still subject to the latest government advice, as and when it changes.

Halls of residence also remain open for those who want to stay, with special support in place for any students who might need to self-isolate. The university also said it has increased the amount of soap and handwash on its campuses and distributed disinfectant wipes to all libraries and teaching areas with open access computers so keyboards can be wiped down before and after use.

Updates will be posted on the university Intranet and significant changes will be emailed to students and staff.
