A proposed playground design has raised some eyebrows after keen-eyed residents spotted something a little off.

Metropolitan Housing is renovating the area in Redwing Road, on Wallington's Roundshaw Estate.

Ward councillor Mo Saqib said it was initially hoped the housing association would consult with residents on the designs, but that those plans changed.

After forwarding across the most recent design to a few of his constituents, a similar trend started to appear.

"They pointed out that there's a massive penis in the middle," Cllr Saqib said.

"I'm grateful that Metropolitan Housing are renovating the playground.

"I posted the playground design on Facebook to get feedback from residents after Metropolitan changed their minds and decided not to consult on it.

"Personally I hadn’t noticed the phallic shape but it certainly caused a lot of amusement. I guess this shows the value of consulting residents."

Luckily for Cllr Saqib and the Roundshaw residents, the housing association saw the lighter side of things.

A spokesman for Metropolitan Housing said: “Looking at this now, the design is certainly unfortunate so thanks to those who got in touch.

"We want to reassure residents we are listening, and will take the time to get it right.

"Together with the community, we look forward to creating a safe and fun outdoor space for children in the neighbourhood.”

The design has since been amended.
