Motspur Park Station is set to benefit from millions in funding to improve access at railways across the country.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that in his forthcoming budget that £50 million worth of investment would be made available to improve accessibility to 12 train stations, with Motspur Park included on the list.
This pleased Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond who told the Wimbledon Times: "I am delighted that the Government are yet again committing to funding accessibility improvements at railway stations through their access for all scheme.
"For some time now I have been campaigning for step free access at all local stations.
"While we await more details in the Budget, I am really pleased there is every indication that Motspur Park Station will benefit this funding.
"I will also continue to campaign to ensure that Raynes Park benefits from better accessibility.”
The additional funding is designed to make it easier for disabled and elderly passengers to use the rail network.
"The money will be used to pay for lifts and ramps to create an obstacle-free route from station entrances to the platforms.
Only around one in five stations on the railway network are currently fully accessible.
Mr Sunak added: “These upgrades will ensure the elderly, disabled, parents with young children and others with mobility problems can get around.
“I want facilities like this to be the norm and never the exception.”
