The coach of a teenager who was stabbed to death over the weekend has paid tribute to the former track star.

Damani Mauge, 17 was killed on Sunday after being stabbed on a 130 bus in Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood.

Paul Weston is a coach for the Croydon Harriers where Damani was part of a gold medal winning relay team at the 2016 London Youth Games.

Mr Weston said: “Damani was a much-loved member of the training group and played a vital role in our relay squads and the team as a whole, while he was a member with us.

"All of us at the club are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers are very much with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

As well as success at the London Youth Games, Damani also competed and won at the Olympic Stadium as part of the Under 15 boy’s 4x100m team. He also won bronze at the 2016 Surrey Schools Championships in the Under 15 boy’s 200m.

At this stage, police believe Damani was involved in an altercation on a bus prior to the attack. No arrests have yet been made.

Also paying tribute to the teenager was family member Jaykoda Kent.

Jaykoda told the Croydon Guardian: “He was such a lively and bubbly young man.

"He had potential to go far and do his family proud.

"He was taken away from us to soon.”
