A girls football team in Teddington has been invited to participate in a football festival at Chelsea Football Clubs training ground on March 8.

The event has been organised as a collaboration between St Mary's University, Surrey County Women & Girls Football League and the Chelsea FC Foundation.

It is also a celebratory event to honour International Women's Day 2020.

Michael Ayres, a qualified, licensed FA Coach who is also the head coach for Teddington Athletic FC U11 Diamonds Girls Team, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to visit and play at a world class performance venue.

"It is also recognition for the hard work being undertaken by Teddington Athletic FC who do a brilliant job attracting young girls to play football in a safe and challenging environment and enjoy the brand-new clubhouse in Bushy Park.

"The girls can’t wait to play."

In total, eight teams play in the festival to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020.

It is expected to attract over 100 girls and 300 spectators which include ex Chelsea and England international player - Katie Chapman as well as Chelsea FC's under 18 girls team.

Teddington Athletic Football Club has more than 150 girls playing football in one of its 11 teams.

The girls are placed into teams from under eight's to under 16's in the Surrey County Women and Girls Football League and training takes place every Sunday in Bushy Park.
