A Richmond school has issued a further update after it contacted parents earlier this week regarding coronavirus precautions, after some of its students returned from a ski trip in Italy.

In a new statement on Thursday (February 27), Grey Court School headteacher Chris Rhodes defended the school's response to the situation.

"Grey Court School has received some information requests from parents during the course of the week and have been responding to them," the statement read.

"We have reiterated our continued message that if any students who visited Bardonecchia on the skiing trip to Italy and are displaying symptoms associated with the Coronavirus should stay at home and request medical assistance.

"The resort where our students visited was not at all close in proximity to the high risk infected areas of Italy that are being talked about in the media; Hence our rationale for believing any risk to our trip was low.

"We support parents who wish to take a cautious approach however, it's important to stress that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office are advising that travel in or out of this skiing area is not restricted.

"You can still book a skiing holiday today to travel to Bardonecchia."

When asked if any of the pupils returned from the trip had been placed in isolation, Mr Rhodes added that it would be "wholly inappropriate" to comment on individual cases.

He added: "I'm pleased to say that, as far as I'm aware, there are no reported incidents of anybody in our school, Ham or the borough of Richmond having been tested positive for Coronavirus.

National figures for testing positive are currently very low also."

He finished by advising parents to continue to monitor the school's website for further updates and the school would continue to follow advice from the Government and Public Health England.
