About 100 firefighters tacklied a blaze at a car workshop in Croydon last night.
Pictures and video posted on social media showed huge plumes of smoke billowing from the site on Lancing Road in Croydon.
Nearby residents were advised to keep their doors and windows shut.
The London Fire Brigade said it received 39 calls about the fire and sent 15 fire engines to the scene.
A statement said: "The Brigade was called at 5.44pm. Fire crews from Norbury, Croydon, Mitcham, West Norwood, Brixton, Addington and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.
"The fire was under control by 9.51pm.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
