After more than three years, the Blackhorse Lane Bridge will finally reopen to traffic on Tuesday, February 25.

The 120-year-old bridge closed in 2016 and the closure has caused havoc for drivers.

Some businesses in the area have complained they suffered a slump in trade as a result of people not being able to get to them easily.

The bridge was originally supposed to re-open in January 2019 but it was delayed thanks to “unforeseen issues” including a Victorian sewer system not on any plans.

In a Valentine’s Day update, Transport for London revealed that the bridge will reopen fully to two-way traffic at 10am on Tuesday (February 25).

But there will be a final bit of disruption before the bridge is reopened.

Blackhorse Lane will close to all traffic between between its junctions with Morland Road and Teevan Road from 8am on Monday, February 24, until 10am the following day.

This is so that barriers can be removed. Traffic will be diverted via Morland Road, Woodside Green and Spring Lane and  marshals will be on hand to help drivers.

Croydon Council-owned Addiscombe Railway Park Bridge was replaced at the same time and it is two metres wider to accommodate a cycle path.

This will open fully at the same time. Both bridges were opened to single lane traffic before Christmas.

Parts of Addiscombe Railway Park were also revamped. The park is due to fully reopen to the public in March
