A shoplifter from Kingston who targeted the Marks and Spencer store on Clarence Street has been banned from the town centre for three years.
42-year-old Jason Smith was convicted of two robberies at the Clarence Street store and handed a slew of penalties that did not include a custodial sentence yesterday (February 17).

As the Comet reported earlier this month, video footage showed the moment Smith was tackled and arrested by plain-clothed police officers outside the Kingston department store after attempting another robbery.
Sentenced on Monday, the Met Police said that Smith received:
- A 12 month community order
- Order to pay £304 comp.
- Eight-week curfew
- Three-year court order not to enter Kingston town centre or New Malden High St
On Twitter, a spokesperson for Beverley ward MPS described the Kingstonian as "a subject to keep an eye on, if sighted in New Malden, High Street".
