A SUM of £5,000 is up for grabs for youth projects in Colwyn Bay.

Colwyn Bay town council has invited residents and local groups to come forward to bid for the funds which have been allocated from the council’s budget to support youth projects and activities in 2020.

Cllr Neil Bastow, Mayor of Colwyn Bay, made an appeal for residents, particularly the young people of Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn and Rhos on Sea to come up with initiatives for funding.

He said: “We need ideas for projects or activities for our local young people.

"The application process is really simple and local residents, will be able to decide which projects receive funding at a public voting event in April.”

He added: “To find out more detail, please visit our website: www.colwyn-tc.gov.uk or find us on Facebook @BayofColwynTownCouncil.”

The awards come at a time of a general squeeze on local government funding and services being cut back. Even so, in addition to the awards for youth projects, the town council has been able to call for applications for grants to support events to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day later this year. The council allocated £5,000 for these grants. A further £5,000 was made available at the end of last year to underpin events in Colwyn Bay to attract visitors.
