A planning saga surrounding an extension to a popular Llandudno cafe has ended in victory for the owner.

Kevin Rice had applied in April 2019 to increase the size of his popular West Shore Beach Cafe, off West Parade in the town, by around 75%.

The number of diners that could be catered for under the new proposal would be 141. The cafe currently has 78 covers.

However his bid to extend and lengthen opening times brought objections from local residents.

Some living at Holyrood Court, a 15-apartment development to the north of the site, objected to potential smells and noise from fans and disruption from more people using the upgaded venue.

Having changed the types of fans he will use and made concessions on the proposed opening hours, Mr Rice’s proposal was given the go-ahead this week by Conwy’s planning committee.

Speaking on his Facebook page afterwards he said: “I’ve just come out of the planning committee meeting with Conwy County Borough Council and after a long and sometimes frustrating process I am happy to let you all know we have been successful. Thank you for all your support so far.”

He had proposed being open from 10am-10pm Monday to Friday, 10am-10.30pm on Saturdays and from 10am-10pm on Sundays and Bank holidays.

The revised opening hours will be 10am-9pm Sunday to Thursday (including Bank Holidays) and 10am-10pm on Saturday.
