Surrey County Council (CC) said that more than 270 separate incidents of flooding had been reported as a result of the storms:

"Crews were called out to more than 270 incidents ranging from fallen trees to roads that had flooded along with bridges and barriers that had been damaged.

"There’s more information online on how to report flooding or fallen trees  and you can find out more about how to prepare for flooding on our flooding advice pages," a spokesperson said.

In the North and East of the county, flood waters from the River Mole rose to cover roads and threaten bridges in Leatherhead.

There were three separate "red" flood warnings for the River Mole on Monday, with Stoke D'Abernon and Cobham, and Leatherhead the residential areas of chief concern.

The Environment Agency (EA) warned of flooding in the area and highlighted the flood defences put in place to protest residents and properties.

"We've installed 340 metres of temporary #flood barrier at #Leatherhead to help protect 28 properties.

"Stay away from swollen rivers and don’t drive through flood water, just 30cm of water can be enough to move a car #PrepareActSurvive," a spokesperson said.

Numerous train lines in the region were disrupted on Monday morning with a number of trains delayed or cancelled.

"High winds and flooding as a result of Storm Dennis is causing disruption to trains across the Southern and Thameslink network.

"As a result of this, trains across the Southern and Thameslink network may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Southern and Thameslink customers can use their tickets on either operator's services," a spokesperson for Southern Railway said.

Among those stations impacted most severely by the flooding were Mitcham Junction and Epsom, with a number of key commuter trains between Victoria and Epsom cancelled.

Bus replacement services were in place for those lines and trains cancelled by the floods, Southern said.

A fallen tree between Tattenham Corner and Purley further disrupted rail users between the two stations as a result of the high winds brought by Storm Dennis.

On the road network, Surrey Police reported road closures between the M25 and Ockham for motorists on Monday morning.

"Travel warning:

"A3 southbound between M25 and Ockham still has TWO of three lanes CLOSED due to flood water from adjacent field spilling onto the carriageway.

"This will likely cause significant delays into the morning rush hour.

"Please approach with care," a spokesperson for Surrey Road Policing Unit (RPU) said.
