A Beddington chicken shop was found to be so dirty by food inspectors, staff were told cleaning needed to be improved everywhere.

The Chickery in The Broadway was given a rating of one out of five by Sutton Council’s food safety team.

Staff were also ordered to wash their hands before preparing food and to wear aprons. The inspector said they didn’t understand the hot and cold food system and that there were no temperature records.

It was inspected on December 17 and the inspector said they were “very disappointed to find conditions very similar to those I found in May 2017. Improvements are needed urgently”.

To improve, the fast food takeaway was told it should not store food in cardboard boxes in the fridge.

Inspectors said the extractor fan system had not been cleaned since 2018 and shelves needed tidying to remove anything that wasn’t to do with the business.

Chopping boards and containers needed to be replaced as well as fridge doors and glazing brushes.

But on delivery website JustEat the takeaway gets 4.6/6 stars.

One 5.5 star review reads: “Lovely food. Love the chips and chilli powder on it love the hot wings and the chicken burger was lovely too and filling.”

While another three star reviewer gave some advice on how to improve.

They said: “Peri Chicken should be avoided at all costs! It’s tough as old boots and drier than Ghandi’s flip flop!! I honestly thought part of the chicken was bone, till I cut through it with a knife!

“These guys need to either start brining their chicken first or perhaps lightly poaching and then grilling it, as whatever they’re doing now makes it awful!”

We contacted The Chickery for a comment but did not hear back.
