The Duchess of Cornwall opens new cancer support centre in Sutton

The centre will bring the charity’s free emotional and practical support to people with cancer, and their family and friends.

Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden will offer services designed to support those already provided by The Royal Marsden’s psychological support and pastoral care team who will be working closely with Maggie’s to ensure patients are accessing the most appropriate support to meet their needs.

Laura Lee, chief executive at Maggie’s said: “We are so grateful to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall for her continued support of Maggie’s and were honoured to welcome her to Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden today.

"Her visit and commitment to raising awareness of the support we offer makes a huge difference to those who visit and work in our centres.

"It is fantastic to be opening our fourth centre in London and expanding our support for people with cancer across the capital.

"We are so pleased with the vibrant building that Ab and his team have created and the beautiful garden designed by Piet.

"We would like to thank all of the donors and staff who have helped bring this centre to life, especially The Law Family Foundation to whom we have gifted the naming rights of the centre to."

Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden is the first building from Ab Rogers Design, with a garden by renowned landscape designer Piet Oudulf.

Maggie's helps people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.

The professional team in the centre will provide help and information to visitors and run groups and activities, all designed to make coping with cancer easier.

"The services Maggie’s provide wonderfully complement and enhance the psychological support already provided at The Royal Marsden, and our psychological support and pastoral care team to ensure that patients have the very best treatment and care for all aspects of their cancer.

"The centre provides a breathing space away from the hospital where patients and their family and friends can meet people who understand what they’re going through or just take a quiet moment to reflect. I am delighted we can work together to ensure our patients have the most appropriate support to meet their needs”.
