A 17-year-old girl is in a critical condition after a car overturned on a road near Caterham on Saturday (February 1).

Police issued an information appeal after they were called to the scene of the incident around 11.25pm on Saturday night.

It happened in the Tupwood Scrubbs Road area of Caterham.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police described what details investigators had so far managed to piece together:

"We’re currently investigating a serious injury collision involving an overturned blue BMW.

"A 17 year-old girl was treated for serious injuries and taken to hospital.

"Her condition is described as critical.

"We have spoken to the drivers of the BMW and a silver Hyundai Coupe that was also in the area, but we’re keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help us to establish what happened."

Police said that any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage taken near the site around the time of the incident should contact police to help them ascertain exactly what happened.
