ON A bright but very blustery Sunday Hampshire’s local cycling club, Winchester CTC, ran its annual New Year challenge for cyclists.
This is now a national event, with riders travelling from as far afield as Yorkshire and Wales, as well as many local riders taking part.
The event is now always oversubscribed, with a full house of 150 cyclists joining in.
The 105 kilometre (65-mile) non-competitive event started from the Jubilee Hall in Kings Worthy.
The course went through St Mary Bourne, climbed Chute Causeway in Wiltshire and touched briefly into west Berkshire, before completing the famous Watership Down climb near Whitchurch on the return leg.
The weary but elated finishers enjoyed piping hot tea and enormous slabs of cake when they reached the finish back in Kings Worthy.
