Age UK in Bexley has set up a fundraising page in the hopes to raise money for a new shower at their day-centre.
Two years ago, Bexley day-care service underwent major restructure with the closure of one site in the north of the borough.
Since the change, the centre has seen a greater demand for its showering facilities, with one not being enough.
The showering service is a critical area of assistance for carers and loved ones.
Guy Stevenson, Chief Executive Officer, Age UK Bexley said:
“Access to the existing shower is not always being achieved without compromising what we would regard as an essential level of dignity.
"The management of personal hygiene is consistently raised by carers as a substantial challenge in meeting their on-going care responsibilities and the needs of their loved ones.”
The charity is planning to deliver a fundraiser in March under the slogan 'Give me a shower in 2020.'
The service currently supports between 30 to 35 people each day.
The page has raised £125 so far and can be found at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/cleaner-healthier-and-stronger?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
