While families across Croydon woke up to some unexpected deliveries from Santa, the borough's newest parents made room for their own deliveries this Christmas.

Ten babies - six boys and four girls - were delivered at Croydon University Hospital's maternity unit by some of the incredible midwives working across on December 25.

The first arrival of the day was baby Haiah, who was born at 12:20am to delighted parents Mustafa and Iqbar.

The family, alongside other new parents who spent their day in the maternity unit, were presented with festive gifts to celebrate the occasion.

Manjit Roseghini, Director of Midwifery at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust said: “Welcoming a new baby into the world and into our extended Croydon family, is exciting at any time of year, but on Christmas Day we like to think it’s extra special.

“We’ve been celebrating with our new parents throughout the day and delivering some gifts to our Mums, as well as helping to bring them the best present of all – a little bundle of joy.”
