An Indian restaurant in Sutton has won top prize at the national Curry Life Awards.

The Noor Jahan Restaurant in Brighton Road, won ‘best restaurant’ category in Surrey at the annual industry awards held in central London's Hilton Hotel.

More than 800 people attended the gala evening hosted by TV presenters Cathy Newman and Adam Shaw.

The award capped off a great year for restaurateur Shuhel Ahmed whose business has enjoyed fantastic reviews and online ratings.

Lord Karan Bilimoria, founder of Cobra Beer and vice president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), added: “I congratulate all the nominees and winners of the curry life awards.

The Curry Life Awards was held in partnership with Just Eat and were also supported by Cobra Beer, Unisoft Solutions, Greater than Gin, Print Today and Travel Links Worldwide.
