You’re cosying up on the sofa watching Christmas films and stuffing your face with chocolate – the last thing you need to worry about is when you’ll be able to get rid of all the wrapping paper, bottles and turkey bones clogging up your house.

Councils tend to change their bin collection dates over the festive period, but we’ve got you covered.

In Kingston, bins will be collected as normal until Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve).

But the collection staff do not work on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, resulting in a change to the timetable.

Collections will return to their normal schedule on Monday, January 13, 2020.

Check out the table below to find out your revised bin day for the Christmas period, and remember to put your bins out by 6:30am to ensure they are collected!

It is open Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am-4pm.

Then over the festive period:

Christmas Day, closed

Boxing Day, closed

New Year’s Eve, open from 7.30am to 5pm

New Year’s Day, closed

For other dates and times visit the HRRC webpage. The last admission to the centre is 15 minutes before closing on all days. If you are visiting with a van or other large vehicle, please check the website for access arrangements ahead of your visit.

It is advised you go by car. It is not accessible by bicycle or foot, except on Sundays 1pm-4pm.

Where can I recycle my Christmas tree?

The council will collect and compost your real Christmas trees between January 13 and January 24 2020. Just leave them at the boundary of your property on the same day as your wheelie bin collection.

You are also able to dispose of your Christmas tree at the Villiers Road Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC).
