Charlton are bracing themselves for a host of bids for striker Lyle Taylor when the January transfer window opens next month.

Despite only returning from injury a fortnight ago, several Championship clubs are expected to lodge bids for the talismanic 29-year-old when the window opens on January 1st.

Brentford saw multiple bids, believed to be up to £4millon, rejected on deadline day in the last window, but having started the season with five goals in as many games, the Montserrat international has alerted more clubs to his talent.

Brentford are expected to return to the bidding table, along with Bristol City, West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Scottish giants Rangers.

Take Over Decision Key

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer is eager to keep hold of his star man as he looks to steer his side away from the foot of the table, but with uncertainty over the Charlton takeover, current owner Roland Duchatelet may fancy one last pay day.

If the proposed East Street Investment takeover gets approval, Bowyer believes the club will have more chance of keeping the fan favourite with the offer of a bumper new deal promised.

Taylor’s contract is up at the end of the season and with a new deal likely to be declined should ESI’s takeover not get approved, the Addicks will be left with the decision of whether to cash in on their biggest asset.

If they do, Bowyer and Head of Recruitment will be left with the task of replacing their prolific marksman.

Here is a list of who they could potentially look towards to fill the void.

Connor Wickham

News Shopper:

Frozen out at Crystal Palace after four years of injury struggles.

Finding game time hard to come by at Selhurst Park with Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew ahead him, as well as Roy Hodgson’s open admission he’s looking to bolster his front line in January.

The 26-year-old knows the division well having played for Ipswich, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday in the second tier, while also has the pedigree of Premier League football with Sunderland.

With just three appearances this season, a loan or a permanent move for the centre forward could benefit all three parties.

It worked wonders for Jonny Williams.

Ivan Toney

News Shopper:

If anyone could fill the boots of Taylor it would be the charismatic Peterborough United front man.

Starting the League One season in scintillating form, netting an impressive 14 goals in 19 games, the 23-year-old is making waves at Posh.

Starting at Newcastle United before a string of loan moves found the frontman settling in Peterbrough, the tricky and pacey forward is sure to want to test himself at a higher level, and sure to cost a fraction of Taylor’s selling fee, it could represent a shrewd bit of business by the Addicks.

Rhian Brewster

News Shopper:

Liverpool’s young starlet has been subject of attention from a host of clubs and having been dumped out of the Carabao Cup to Aston Villa on Tuesday night, a move away from Anfield looks the best bet for first team football.

Crystal Palace were rumoured to be interested in the Under 17 World Cup Winner but with Brewster unproven at Premier League level, a step down to the Championship with Charlton, where Lee Bowyer is known to give youth a chance, could be on the cards.

The 19-year-old is highly rated at Liverpool and a loan deal until the end of the season could benefit both parties as the Addicks looks to stave off relegation.

Armand Gnanduillet

News Shopper:

Lee Bowyer revealed they were keen on the forward in the summer but the deal fell through late in the window.

The Blackpool forward has been on fire this season, scoring 11 goals in 18 games so ressurecting the deal could be a possibility.

Out of contract in the summer, Blackpool find themselves in the same situation as Charlton in regards to a buy or sell their key player this January.

Gnanduillet, 27, has carved his trade in the third tier of English football since arriving from France five years ago.

There’s no doubt he’d be keen to test himself in the Championship.

Mo Eisa

News Shopper:

Another who was linked to Charlton over the course of the last two transfer windows

Eisa signed for Peterbrough in the summer and has kickstarted his career after a disappointing stay at Bristol City.

Scoring 13 goals in 20 appearances the 25-year-old would love another crack in the second tier but there’s sure to be a host of clubs after his signature.

Able to play anywhere across the front line, his versatility and eye for goal offers a like for like replacement for Taylor, should he leave.

John Marquis

News Shopper:

Remember him?

Having left Doncaster in the summer signing for Portsmouth, life hasn’t gone to plan for the former Millwall man.

Portsmouth felt Marquis was the man to fire them back up to the Championship but with just four goals and four assists in 19 games, their £1.5million outlay seems to be short returned.

That said, Bowyer was a huge admirer of the target man last season and could test Pompey’s resolve in January if the price is right.
