Liberal Democrat Tom Brake has lost his seat in Carshalton and Wallington after being defeated by Conservative Elliot Colburn.

It was declared early on Friday morning that Colburn will replace Brake as MP for the constituency, after he secured 42.4 per cent of the vote and a small majority of 629.

Brake came second with 20,193 votes, while Labour's Ahmad Wattoo placed third with 6,081 votes.

He was followed by the Brexit Party candidate, James Woudhuysen, who won 1,043 votes, and Tracey Hague of the Green Party with 759.

Christian Peoples Alliance candidate Ashley Dickenson received 200 votes.

The Conservative victory comes after Tom Brake held the seat since 1997, with the last Conservative victory in the seat in 1992.

Turnout was 67.3 per cent.
