Around 25 Firefighters were called to West Hill in South Croydon following reports of a fire at a block of flats.
According to the emergency services at least four fire engines were also in attendance as servicemen tackled the blaze that started at 6.10am today.
The flats were meant to be under construction prior to the fire.
Since the fire - part of the ground floor of the four storey block has been completely damaged.
Firefighters from Croydon, Purley and Woodside spent two hours and 13 mins to control the scene and part of the ground.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
