Putney has lost nearly half its post offices in the last five years, the Government said this week.

Ministers told Putney MP Justine Greening that the number of post offices in Putney, Roehampton and Southfields had reduced from 18 to 10. The average drop in other London boroughs was one in four.

Ms Greening said: "Local post offices not only provide crucial services for our community, but generate business that supports other local community shops.

"If the rate of closures seen in this first wave is repeated, that would mean Putney, Roehampton and Southfields left with just five or six post offices serving a population of 85,000 people - a totally inadequate level of service."
