It was a bitter sweet moment for Purley's Mandy Sharp when she crossed the finish line of the Great South Run.

There was a sense of joy and pride that she had completed the 10-mile course through Portsmouth in memory of her dad, Terry Nolan.

Mr Nolan died in 2001, 11 weeks after he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour. He was treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton.

Mandy, who works at Mark Youll estate agents in Purley, and former colleague Stuart Tabberner, ran the race in 1hr 36mins - despite wet and windy conditions. They raised £450 for the hospital.

Mandy said she wanted to raise money for the Royal Marsden to say thank you for the care her dad received and the support staff provided to the whole family.

She said: "I can't say thank you enough to them."
