The owner of a Cheam restaurant used for a scene in an upcoming ITV show said it was a "proud moment" for him.

On October 21, ITV1 drama 'Because the Night' filmed at El Desperado restaurant in London Road.

Lutfi Erdogan owns the restaurant and said the day of filming was an experience like no other.

"When Euston Films approached me to film some scenes in my restaurant I was so happy and proud as I decorated my restaurant with my own hands," he said.

"It was an amazing experience to watch how they film."

The show is a four-part ghost story written by Neil Cross, the writer of the 'Luther' series.

A description of the show on ITV's website said: "It is a chilling and suspenseful four-part story of murder – and perhaps ghosts – which exposes the quiet terror of a man trying to escape his past.

"The series is inspired by the novel Burial."

Mr Erdogan added that it was good to see so much attention brought to Cheam, if only for one day of filming.

"It involved hundreds people and so much high tech.

"I got the chance to meet the director and the cast.

"It also brought so much attention to North Cheam."
