A Kingston University student was wounded in the fatal shooting of fellow undergraduate Philip Poru a fortnight ago.

Philip, 18, was shot dead as he sat in a car in Plumstead, east London, on Sunday, October 14.

Police have confirmed the second student, also 18, was sitting in the silver Ford Fiesta with Philip when they were approached by two black men at about 10pm who opened fire.

Both students were rushed to hospital, where Philip later died.

A postmortem examination revealed he died of gunshot wounds to his chest.

The second student, named as Olabode Amifowoshe in the university's student newspaper, was reportedly in a serious condition after the shooting.

Kingston University has paid tribute to Philip as a "friendly and polite young man".

The 18-year-old had just started a joint honours degree in media and cultural studies with television and new broadcasting media.

Lecturer Steven Bastow, who taught Philip, said staff and fellow students had been saddened to learn of his death.

"Philip had only just begun his studies at Kingston University but had already demonstrated a strong interest in film and media," said Mr Bastow.

"He came across as a friendly and polite young man who also enjoyed sport including football, table tennis and working out at the gym."

No arrests have yet been made and police are keeping an open mind about whether the incident is gang related.
