A football club is raising money to help ensure its survival moving forward.

Mitcham Park Football Club was founded in 2011 and offers grassroots football to the community.

Club chairman Mark Rogers said: "As part of the Surrey FA League, we are a self-funded football club where staff, managers, coaches all take part in the running of the club voluntarily.

"In order to offer a safe place to play football, including equipment, kits, a home ground (including maintenance and rent) and general running of the club teams, we clearly need the support of our community to help with fundraising."

So the club, which runs teams from under 8s to adults, came up with an idea.

"In order to raise much needed funds, we are hosting a fundraising event by way of a sponsored walk to be held on Saturday, October 26 at 11am," Mr Rogers added.

"All teams will take part in the five mile walk through Mitcham and Tooting, so your donations would be greatly appreciated, no matter how large or small it may be – every little helps.

"Keep an eye out for some of the managers on the walk, you might see a Santa or two."
