A suspected thief from Croydon who allegedly burgled a home in Gillingham to steal car keys has been charged with seven offences.

Kent Police was called to reports of a burglary in the early hours of October 15 at a home in Cornwallis Avenue.

Subsequently it was reported that one car had been taken from outside the address and a handbag had been taken from within another vehicle.

At around 11am the same day, patrols from the Roads Policing Unit located and stopped the stolen vehicle in Longfield Road, Welling.

Following enquiries, Karl Whyte, of Headley Road, Croydon was arrested and charged with burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent, failing to provide a urine sample, failing to provide a drug testing sample and driving without insurance and a licence.

The 37-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court in court today.
