Here's five things we learned from Charlton's 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Macauley Bonne’s quality is starting to shine

What a performance that was from Macca, without a doubt the best I've seen from him in a Charlton shirt.

He had a lucky goal I think, however, if he wasn't where he was at the time we may never have won that game.

He kept the ball well and his hold-up play was absolutely superb, he made it hard for the defenders to take the ball off him and at times tampered with their defence.

From his performance against Forest Green to where he is now in this short space of time, he has certainly made a phenomenal improvement in just about every aspect of his game.

News Shopper:

Lee Bowyer’s passion for the game was embedded into the team

Over the course of the last year and a half, we have seen some fantastic displays from our players under Lee Bowyer and this game was no different.

This one involved a lot more defending than what I personally like to see, but as long as it gets the job done at the end of the day I’m happy. They were literally putting their bodies on the line for the three points!

Bowyer rallied his troops to put up a fight against Leeds, we did exactly that with flying colours no matter what they threw at us we managed to come out on top every time.

That was all down to Lee Bowyer drilling in the ‘never say die’ attitude that Charlton has been known for before and after a long while of being pushovers we are back to what we were known for.

Tom Lockyer was the glue that held the defence together

News Shopper:

The Welshman had a dream of a game, he kept the Leeds attackers in his pocket all afternoon, Tom was on everything he could get to and worked his socks off.

I think it’s safe to say Lockyer was our best defender against The Whites and is quickly becoming one of the best defenders we have had at the club.

You can tell in the way he plays he is a proper Charlton player, I don't think we have seen anyone like Tom since Richard Rufus and we all know how important he was.

Dillon Phillips saved the game

Although there is still much to be desired about his kicking, Phillips saved the game on a number of occasions.

His saves yesterday were what kept us in front and he is starting to show those signs of how good he really is in goal.

We have seen some brilliant shot-stopping from him since he has come in after Jed Steer was re-called by Aston Villa and this game was a great display of what he can do.

Leeds need to work on their shooting

Although our defence was solid, there were times where we would get broken down by the Leeds attack, fortunately for us they lacked quality in the shooting.

I know Leeds do have some decent strikers, but every time they had a chance to shoot the pressure was instantly off as they skied the ball many times in yesterdays encounter.

It did get to the point where they were missing so much I wasn't even worried anymore, they looked like a solid side with confidence issues upfront which was followed by cheers from the home end after every missed shot.
