After his side's 1-0 victory over Leeds United, Lee Bowyer was full of admiration for the opposition and in particular their manager, Marcelo Bielsa.

“Bielsa has worked miracles,” the Addicks manager said.

“I watched Leeds two years ago, before he took over, and they weren’t very good. Now they are a top side and that’s down to the manager and his staff.”

Bowyer spent the majority of his playing career at Leeds United, but when asked about the sentiment of this win, he was quick to ensure this game was just like any other.

“A win is a win, it’s just another three points. I have the utmost respect for everyone at Leeds, including the fans, but I saw it as just another game I wanted to win.”

Another area Bowyer was keen to discuss was the tactical battle between him and Bielsa in today’s match. For the first time this season Bielsa switched to a back three at half time, a decision that Bowyer believed to be flattering to his side.

He continued: “The game plan was for us to start with four at the back and switch to a back three after 20 minutes. After this we created far more chances and Leeds struggled.”

“It’s the first time I’ve seen the manager change his formation the whole time he’s been there. That just shows how well we did in the first half. They then matched us by going to a back three in the second half.”

The Addicks boss also revealed where he believes Leeds will finish come the end of the season.

“I think they’ll go up; they were unlucky last year not to go up. Nothing’s changed," he added.

Bowyer will be hoping for a similarly positive result this coming Wednesday when his side host Swansea City managed by another young coach in Steve Cooper.
