Balham Station has been closed with major disruption between London Victoria and Selhurst after a person was reportedly killed by a train.

Southern Rail issued a statement confirming the disruption at around 4pm (September 28), while images emerged of emergency services at Balham Station and a sign stating there had been a "fatality on the track".

The statement from Southern Rail read: "Emergency services dealing with an incident between London Victoria and Selhurst is causing disruption to journeys between these stations. As a result of this, trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.This is expected until 8pm.

"The emergency services are currently dealing with an incident between London Victoria and Selhurst, and power to the line has been switched off to allow response teams to safely deal with this incident.

"Journeys between London Victoria and Streatham will be significantly delayed. You should consider using alternative transport to complete your journey during this time, or travel later than originally planned."

The statement confirmed there will be no train service at the following stations while the incident is dealt with:

  • Balham (underground is available)
  • Streatham Hill
  • Selhurst
